Grooming Posted: 02/19/2009 Grooming Your Scottish Terrier at Home
Those of us owned by a Scottish Terrier know how frustrating it can be to find a groomer who really does know how to trim and groom our friskey friends.
And, when we do find a capable groomer, we are faced with the cost of an expensive haircut. With economic uncertainty staring us in the face, it may make sense to explore home grooming as a money saving option.
Jacki Forkel, a professional groomer and breeder of champion Scotties, offers a step-by-step approach in Grooming You Can Do at Home.
This is a pretty darn useful "how to" grooming guide.

Yesterday was a big day for Tucker. He went off to the Clip Joint on Massachusetts Avenue in Arlington for one of his frequent social and grooming sessions. The owner, Julie, is always happy to see Tucker. She says..."He is always the perfect gentleman." Robyn, Julie's assistant, and Tucker's personal groomer from Tucker's point-of-view..."is the best!"
The "Joint" as Tucker calls it is always a social adventure for him. He gets a chance to see his Arlington friends, especially Scrappy and Charlie. The three of them have quite a howl together.
I, too, am amazed at how well mannered Tucker is during his grooming session. I attribute his good behavior to Beverly Cromwell, his breeder, and his many grooming sessions prior to his Scottie matches when he was a young lad.
Tucker is the best Scottie. He always has been!

Paul took me for a grooming today. He did not tell me beforehand. He just pulled up to The Clip Joint, and said..."Let's go see Robin." She is my regular groomer.
Immediately after stopping at the Post Office to send an Internet order to California, Paul drove down Massachusetts Avenue in a direction that I am all too familiar with. I really am mad at Paul for not giving me a "heads up" about the grooming session.
Grooming sessions are like Scottie matches. You have to emotionally prepare for the event. Paul knows, for example, that I do not like to take a bath.
Well anyway, on our way into the store, Paul, as he usually does, said hello to Julie and Robin. Their response, of course was..."Hello Tucker!" Robin came over, patted me on the head, and said..."Let's go on over to the bathtub." She too knows that I am not in the least fond of the bathing procedure.
Julie told Paul to come back in 1 1/2 hours. I looked around and saw that there were three other dogs that I would be spending part of my afternoon with - a Maltese, Bichon, and mixed breed. The too did not have a happy face expressions.
Well, into the tub I went. Julie is always very careful to keep the shampoo out of my eyes. She also allows me to dry naturally, Paul's instructions, as opposed using a hot air dryer.
After spending about 45 minutes drying out in a crate, Robin took me over to the grooming table, and proceeded to brush my coat out, and trim my face and ears. When she completed that, she began my least favorite thing of all time - clipping my nails.
When Paul returned to fetch me, Robin was still clipping. Paul, as he always does, asked both Julie and Robin how I was. Robin said..."Tucker is always a gentleman during his grooming session." Julie said..."We have several Scotties who regularly come for a grooming, but Tucker is, by far, the most well behaved of them all."
Me, I do not care what Julie or Robin think of me, but Paul was very happy to receive their joint compliments. Robin knows never to ask me to pay for my grooming session. She knows that is Paul's responsibility.
Am I a handsome Scottish fella or what? Who is better looking than me?
